A court in Marburg opened insolvency proceedings on Jan. 1 for Erich Rohde, the venerable German shoe company, confirming Frank Schmitt as receiver. He has already started discussions with potential new investors. Under his management, about 40 of Rohde's 138 employees have already been dismissed since the company requested bankruptcy protection last October to get rid of old debts. He has also been working to restore normal deliveries to clients. One of its suppliers in Moldova, Floare, is requesting damages. Harald Neisser remains as managing director of Rohde, with Nina Pascuzzi acting as international sales director. It's business as usual: the company had a booth at the recent Expo Riva Schuh fair, but it will not show at the GDS.
