A group of young models is suing Skechers USA, accusing it using their images without proper payment. The complaint, filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles, say that Skechers paid a small fee for limited use of the models' images, but then built a global branding campaign around the photos, ignoring the limitations. The lawsuit also notes that the young models would have been unlikely to find out about the violation, given that the ads were used largely outside the U.S. The models want compensatory damages for the sums they were not paid; punitive damages; and a share of Skechers' profits that came about as a result of the ad campaign, with a minimum of $10 million demanded, and are also seeking an injunction against further use of the photographs.
