A major new shoe production zone has been set up in Southern China, backed by investments of around $60.4 million. Located in the city of Heshan, near Yangjiang in the Guangdong province, the 667-hectare site will be jointly developed by the Heshan local government, the association of local shoe producers, and local businesses. Guangdong province exported 1.5 billion pairs of shoes worth $3.6 billion between January and August 2003.
