According to BrandZ's top 100 most valuable global brands rankings of 2018, the retail, luxury and apparel combined account for 16 of the list's names. The ranking was released on May 29 by WPP, the London-based multinational advertising firm, and market researcher Kantar Millward Brown. Amazon was the leading retail brand at No. 3. Rivals like Alibaba Group and Walmart took No. 9 and No. 31, respectively. Louis Vuitton took the top spot in the luxury sphere, at No. 26 of the list. Hermes was at No. 39, and Gucci at No. 54. The high-tech category continues to dominate the ranking, with eight firms in the Top 10. Google and Apple retained the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Microsoft was at No. 4, while Tencent rose to No. 5 ahead of Facebook, up three places from last year's ranking.
