According to the Chinese Leather Industry Association, the country's footwear sector generated sales of $123 billion last year. This was an increase of 4.4 percent as compared to 2016. Overall, China exported 9.6 billion pairs of shoes with a combined value of $45.6 billion, an increase of 3.7 percent in volume and of 1.7 percent in value. The average price per pair was $4.75. Leather footwear exports amounted to a sizable 680 million pairs and generated revenues of $9.3 billion, a decline of 1.2 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively. The average price per pair of leather shoes was $13.68.
