After a 10-year stint, Günter Althaus, 51, will be stepping down as chief executive of the ANWR Group, earlier than planned on Nov. 30 for personal reasons. He had informed the German buying group's board of directors in August that he would not renew his contract after it expires at the beginning of 2021, as he is envisaging new professional challenges. ANWR is the largest retail organization in Europe for independent retailers in the sporting goods and footwear sectors. It is notably the parent of Sport 2000 in the German, Swiss, Dutch and Belgian markets. The group, which has just celebrated its 100th anniversary, has successfully diversified its operations, expanded internationally and introduced new digital tools under Althaus' management. The board will soon undertake the search for a successor.
