After shelving the project of a joint venture for the management of the Salamander and Lurchi brands (see Shoe Intelligence 13-14+15 of June 3), Ara Shoes and Wortmann have also decided to put an end to their existing A+W Shoes joint venture, which they set up 10 years ago to manage the Jana brand of value-priced comfort shoes. In both cases, the increasingly stringent antitrust criteria of the German Cartel Office are given as the reason for the separation. Wortmann is taking over Ara's 50 percent stake in A+W. While Ara was taking care of product development, technology and manufacturing, Wortmann was handling the distribution of the line.
