Aldo, the expansive Canadian shoe retailer, is considering entering Sweden and other Nordic European markets through its Danish franchisee, Retail Group Scandinavia, but the timing and the scope of the banner’s development program in the region is not clear yet. The franchisee has assigned one of its executives, Petere Rönne, to look for new locations all over the region for Aldo shops. By next July, it will already have eight Aldo stores in place throughout Denmark, including one in the Field shopping center near the bridge that links the country with Sweden. Aldo’s franchisees have opened seven stores in Portugal and the first one in Ireland. More action is taking place in Australia and Malaysia, and Aldo plans to enter some other new markets later this year.
