Anci, the Italian shoe industry association, is seeking to rejuvenate the image of Italian footwear with a variety of initiatives. It has proposed to its 800-odd members to have a place in its own website with information about their companies and a catalog of some of their shoes. Some 80 companies with 150 brands have already agreed to do so and others are expected to join soon. All the information is in Italian for the moment, but a translation into English will come at a later stage. Anci has also used the internet to launch a global contest for a new video spot to back up its «I love Italian shoes» campaign. Working through the website, a jury has selected the proposal of an Italian expatriate, Alessandro Meucci, among more than 200 candidates. In other action, Anci is organizing a promotion of Italian footwear in Browns shoe shops in three Canadian cities in April and a workshop in Mumbai, India, in May
