Anci, the Italian shoe industry association, proposed actions to fight various kinds of counterfeiting at a hearing of a dedicated committee of the Italian Parliament's House of Deputies. Besides requesting higher sanctions against counterfeiters and mandatory labels of origin for shoes imported into the European Union, Anci called for legislation to fight the sale of fake products online to companies and consumers. The association also suggested that the Italian government should finance programs intended to protect Italian companies legally in emerging markets from the use of Italian-sounding names by the local competition, and to educate consumers to differentiate products made in Italy.
