Andrea Ghizzani was re-elected chairman of the Italian vegetable-tanned leather consortium (Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale) for a two-year period. The association’s vice chairmen are still Massimo Boldrini and Paolo Quagli. The association will continue its efforts to inform consumers about the benefits of the vegetable tanning process, which is based on the use of natural tannins extracted from chestnut or quebracho trees. Nearly 40 days are needed to transform raw hides into tanned leathers. The association was created in 1994 and comprises 26 tanneries situated between Pisa and Florence.
