Ariston-Nord-West-Ring has appointed Albert Mayer, former joint managing director of Salamander in charge of purchasing, as the new director of purchasing for its footwear business unit, ANWR Schuh. The 52-year-old has had a long career in the German retail sector, where he served for big names such as Hertie, Breuninger and Görtz before joining Salamander. Replacing Thomas Schmidt, Mayer reports to Fritz Terbuyken, the recently appointed new member of the group’s executive board in charge of product management.

In the meantime, ANWR is working on improving its services to the affiliated shoe retailers. This includes a completely revamped internet site at Additionally, ANWR has launched easy@limit, a software tool that helps retailers to optimize the calculation of their budgets for their purchases.

Right before Christmas, ANWR will donate €27,500 to a local hospital that takes care of autistic children. The group has supported such projects for 30 years through its own club for children’s aid, called Kinderhilfe.
