Apiccaps (Portuguese Footwear, Components, Leather Goods Manufacturers' Association) has launched a new campaign to attract young talent in the main production centers of the country's footwear sector. The campaign is entitled “Capture a New Generation of Talents,” and its slogan is “Feeling Sexy – Join the Sexiest Industry in Europe.” Between 2010 and 2015, the Portuguese shoe industry has created 9,000 new jobs, of which 6,500 are qualified jobs. Exports are increasing and the industry has too few qualified workers. Companies are looking for new people especially in the fields of management, design, production, electronics and computing. Apiccaps will be promoting an international internship program and an entrepreneurship program, along with a review of the existing training programs. The Portuguese footwear sector employed around 39,000 people in 2015, which represent a 21 percent increase compared with 2010. The number of footwear manufacturing companies has also increased, with 200 new firms created in the 2010-2015 period. Footwear companies are mainly concentrated in the Northern region of the country. The district of Felgueiras is the largest exporter, accounting for around 37 percent of the country's shoe exports.
