Assocalzaturifici, the Italian shoe industry association, has persuaded its members and a laboratory, Cimac, to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes that have been sold in Africa or through charity shops to help finance a primary school project in Malawi. Conducted in partnership with a non-profit organization, Humana People to People, the project has also contributed to eliminate 1,080 kilos of carbon emissions and 1.8 million liters of waste water, among other environmental benefits. Assocalzaturifici has also given to Humana all the proceeds from the sale of the photos shown at “Similitudini,” an exhibition that it sponsored in Milan during the last edition of theMicam. In another recent action, Assocalzaturifici has made a donation to a 10-year-old cooperative that supports the hiring of disabled children to work in a Florence restaurant, I Ragazzi del Sipario, that is also engaged in catering and banquets.
