BDSE, the German association of footwear retailers, has calculated a slight decline in their sales of 2 percent to approximately €6,387 million in 2008. With an estimated total volume for the entire German shoe market of €8.5 billion, specialty shoe retailers continue to hold a share of about 75 percent. This year started positively in January when sales were up by 2 percent. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, this development was offset by a difficult month of February.
