Brazil exported $522.2 million worth of footwear in the first four months of 2010, an increase of 11.3 percent over what it shipped in the same period in 2009. By volume, Brazilian companies exported 59.8 million pairs of shoes, 20.8 percent more than last year. Abicalçados, the country's footwear manufacturers' association, said that exports to the U.K. rose by 7.5 percent in value and by 20.5 percent in volume. Shipments to Italy were up by 30.2 percent in value and by 21 percent in volume, while exports to the U.S. grew by 6.3 percent in value and by 35.2 percent in volume.
