Brazilian exports have been affected as well. Abicalçados, the footwear manufacturers association there, says that in the first two months of 2009, the value of the country’s exports fell by 24 percent compared with last year to $280.1 million, while imports grew by 49 percent to $40.8 million. Volume exports fell by 26 percent to 28.8 million pairs. On the plus side, the average price per unit grew by 2.8 percent to $9.71 compared with January-February 2008.
