Brown Shoe Company has announced the appointment of Diane Sullivan as chairman of the board, effective Feb. 2, 2014. She will add the new duties to her existing roles as president and chief executive, when Ron Fromm steps down from his role as chairman. He will remain a member of the company's board of directors. Sullivan joined Brown Shoe in 2004 as president, assuming the additional role of chief operating officer in 2006. She was elected to the company's board of directors in 2007. Prior to Brown Shoe, she worked at The Stride Rite Corporation as president and chief operating officer and also served as a member of its board of directors. From there, she moved to Phillips-Van Heusen to act as vice chairman of footwear before joining Brown Shoe. Sullivan has been president and chief executive of Brown Shoe Company since May 2011. The Missouri-based firm notes that Brown Shoe under her management has engaged in major portfolio realignments at the infrastructural, retail and brand levels, which have resulted in significant improvements in shareholder value. In addition to her roles at Brown Shoe and to serving on several footwear industry boards, Sullivan is currently on the boards of BJC HealthCare and Enterprise Holdings. She will become a member of the board of trustees at Washington University on July 1.
