Castañer has appointed a new director general, Domingo Barrachina, who previously ran the international retail operations of Tous, a chain of jewelry and accessories stores. Replacing José Andres Bell and reporting to Antonio Castañer, president of the Spanish shoe company, he will be mainly in charge of pursuing its international development strategy, with a focus on the Asian and American markets. The company recently partnered with two Asian firms, BZY and Blue Bell, to open single-brand stores in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore. It also formed a joint venture with a Colombian group, Silvia Techerassi, to open stores in the Americas, starting with one in Bogotà next spring. Founded in 1927, Castañer produces about 400,000 pairs annually and make an annual turnover of around €30 million, with an export rate of 30 percent.
