Clarks confirms that it will close down all the offices and production facilities of Elefanten around the world, including the headquarters in Germany, the production plants in Portugal and Slovakia and its subsidiary in the USA. Negotiations have started with Elefanten’s staff of 250 people in Germany on the terms for their dismissal. Clarks will keep the rights to the Elefanten brand but it’s not sure whether it will use them in the future - perhaps for a line called “Elefanten by Clarks” manufactured in the Far East - or sell them to another company without the burden of its staff. Richter is one of the companies that were originally interested in acquiring Elefanten.
