Newjohn Limited, a unit of the retailer Daniel Footwear, has bought Johnsons Shoe Company, a British family-run retailer, which fell victim to the Covid-19 pandemic and was placed into administration, a procedure which gives it protection from creditors, on April 23. Johnsons Shoe Company has been trading since 1952.
Johnsons Shoe Company managed 12 stores under the brands Johnsons Shoes and Bowleys Fine Shoes located in London and southeast England, but had to close them on March 20 due to the pandemic. The buyer will permanently close six shops. The remaining stores will continue trading under the Johnsons Shoes banner.
Daniel Footwear was established in 1993. It runs more than 20 stores in the U.K. and an e-commerce site, selling shoes, bags and accessories. It carries a number of design brands including Vivienne Westwood, Valentino by Mario Valentino, UGG, Birkenstock, Tory Burch and Michael Kors. It also has its own Daniel brand.
