The Brazilian footwear manufacturer Grendene has suspend production in Sobral, where it has its largest manufacturing base, following a municipal decree. The company already had to close its sites in the town and other parts of the country due to restriction orders to combat the propagation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The announcement of the suspension was made on June 15 and production is scheduled to resume on June 22. Grendene had just reopened its facilities in Sobral on June 8 after a previous lockdown.
Brazil is the second country most impacted by the pandemic in terms of infections and deaths behind the U.S.. On June 16, it posted a record 34,918 new cases and 1,282 deaths. Since the outbreak of the disease, the country has suffered 45,241 deaths and some 923,000 confirmed cases.
