The Portland, Oregon-based footwear brand Keen announced the opening of a sandal-focused factory in the Dominican Republic with 55,000-square-feet of manufacturing space.
The plant, located in Santiago. will produce the company’s footwear, led by the Newport H2 sandal. It will have an initial annual capacity of 500,000 pairs, which will be increased to two million pairs.
As part of Keen’s Detox the Planet initiative, the factory is abiding to a restricted substances list, resulting in the banning of perfluorocarbon (PFC), antimicrobials, pesticides and biocides.
