For over four decades, Zhejiang Huanqiu Shoes has played a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of China’s modern footwear industry. Founded in 1988 in Wenzhou, the company grew from a local manufacturing operation into one of the region’s most respected professional shoe producers, specializing in vulcanized, casual, children’s and fashion-oriented footwear. Today, Huanqiu operates as a large-scale integrated enterprise, combining R&D, production, and international trade under one roof while supplying partners across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Insights from the leadership team: growth through reliability

To understand how the company continues to expand in an increasingly competitive global market, we spoke with a senior representative of Zhejiang Huanqiu’s management team.

“Our uniqueness lies in being a vertically integrated “Manufacturing & Global Trade & Domestic Sales & E-commerce” group. Unlike pure OEMs, we operate our own successful brands (Huanqiu for adults, Babaya for children) in both China and overseas markets.

This means we possess end-to-end capabilities: from R&D and production using core processes (vulcanised, cemented, injection), to brand management, multi-channel distribution, and direct consumer engagement. We understand the entire value chain, which allows us to be a manufacturing partner who truly “gets” branding, market trends, and go-to-market execution. Our inventory is 60,000 pairs, with an annual stock of 3 million pairs. Among shoe brands in the 69-100 yuan price range in China, we rank second, just behind Warrior.

This customer-driven approach is supported by a team of experienced engineers, buyers, sample developers and quality-control managers, enabling the company to deliver consistent service and manage both small-batch and large-volume production.

According to the leadership team, Huanqiu’s next stage of development focuses on expanding its product architecture, strengthening design capabilities, and increasing value-added manufacturing. Sustainability and modernized production environments are also becoming important pillars in future-proofing the business.

A strategic move: searching for an outdoor footwear manufacturer to acquire

With demand rising in global outdoor, hiking, and trail categories, Zhejiang Huanqiu is preparing its next strategic step: the acquisition of an outdoor footwear manufacturer.

The company is actively exploring opportunities in Europe for factories or established producers with capabilities in:

  • Outdoor, hiking, trekking, or trail footwear
  • Performance-oriented vulcanized, cemented or injection-molded production
  • Advanced outsole development or sustainable material innovation
  • Existing export business and experienced technical teams

“We believe the outdoor segment is entering a strong growth cycle,” the company states.

“To serve customers better, we want to integrate outdoor manufacturing expertise directly into our group.”

This acquisition would enable Huanqiu to establish a more diversified global production network and position itself as a stronger long-term partner for international brands in the outdoor footwear sector.
