In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers of the Asia Pacific Leather Fair (APLF) have finally decided to postpone until next year the annual edition of the event. To keep the business community connected, APLF is offering digital solutions and on May 7 is holding a sourcing event for footwear.

After an initial attempt to reschedule this year’s edition of APLF - Leather, Materials+ and Fashion Access, to June 1-3 from Mar. 31-Apr. 2, the organizers have thrown in the towel and postponed the Hong Kong trade fair to Mar. 30-Apr. 1, 2021. They noted that the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), due Sept. 1-3 in Shanghai, ”will become the first event for the leather industry to get back on track after the pandemic.”

ACLE will provide ”the whole industry with a platform” to resume the business, they added. In the meantime, APLF has set up various digital products, such as the marketplace, webinars and InTouch, a new virtual business matching event on Zoom, to connect exhibitors and buyers.

The webinars focus on educational, industrial and trend topics, while InTouch is a series of sourcing events during which suppliers present their products live to buyers worldwide. Intouch started on April 16, with each event curated to suit different sourcing requirements. Exhibitors present their collections and answer buyers’ questions, after which they can meet in a one-on-one business matching meetings.

On May 7, the InTouch event will be on footwear and footwear-related materials and services.
