In 2019, Timberland, a VF Corp. brand, continued to push forward with its sustainability goals. For all cotton sourced by Timberland, including licenced apparel and accessories, Timberland increased its use of sustainably sourced cotton by 3 percentage points over the previous year to reach 77.5 percent. As for leather, 99.7 percent of what was sourced for Timberland footwear and 96.7 percent of all leather (including that for accessories and clothing) came from tanneries that were awarded silver or gold by the Leather Working Group, which Timberland co-founded. The brand also remains committed to reducing the use of materials that may negatively impact our planet. In 2019, 97 percent of Timberland footwear was PVC-free. For 99 percent of the apparel fabrics and 100 percent of the fabrics for accessories, Timberland used water-repellent finishes without PFC.
Regarding waste management, Timberland’s owned and operated facilities – including office, retail and distribution sites globally as well as its owned manufacturing facility in the Dominican Republic – were able to eliminate almost 65 percent of the waste generated in these plants in 2019. Meanwhile, its distribution centers are on path to be zero-waste.
As for the CSR community pillar, Timberland employees around the world served more than 72,000 community service hours in 2019, a significant increase to 56,111 hours in 2018. Nearly three quarters (71 percent) of the brand’s employees participated in at least one of the 517 service events organized worldwide last year.
