Dosenbach-Ochsner, Deichmann’s Swiss operations, significantly increased its turnover in 2008. Sales grew by a stunning 9.4 percent to 856 million Swiss francs (€561.4m-$757.2m). The number of shoes sold grew by 5.6 percent to 11.6 million pairs. The number of doors increased only slightly by 18, to 333 outlets.
The strongest increase in sales was at Ochsner Sport, the group’s sporting goods chain. Turnover soared by 11.4 percent to CHF 394 million (€258.4m-$348.5m). The strong growth was mainly fueled by the Euro football championship, which Switzerland hosted together with Austria last year. Currently, Ochsner Sport operates 75 stores – three more than at the end of 2007 – plus 11 Sports Lab Sneaker Shops.
Ochsner Shoes increased its sales by 11.1 percent to CHF 131 million (€85.9m-$115.9m). This increase was partially fueled by a significant growth in the number of doors. Ochsner Shoes added 11 outlets to the 60 stores of the previous year. The company was not ready to reveal the evolution of sales on a comparable basis.
The number of Dosenbach footwear and sports stores increased by only four to 176. The chain’s sales increased nevertheless by 6.6 percent to CHF 331 million (€217.1m-$292.8m).
