Dozens of brands have signed up to have a presence in a 10,000-square-meter theme park for shoes and leathergoods due to be set up near Waalwijk, the leading Dutch hub of the leather community. Offering commercial, educational and cultural experiences, the new center is expected to attract between 300,000 and 500,000 visitors per year from the Benelux countries and Germany. In addition to many shoe and leather accessories stores, the center will host a leather design academy and a museum. The €40 million project is being financed by a consortium involving a subsidiary of Rabobank, the Waalwijk city council, the local shoe industry, the Midpoint Brabant partnership and various cultural and historical institutions. A target date has not yet been given for its completion.
