U.S. outdoor lifestyle brand and retailer Eddie Bauer has launched a gear rental service which includes items such as hiking boots, tents and backpacks. On the company’s website a pair of men’s Guide Pro Boots is offered at $18 a pair with delivery on July 28 and return on July 30. It prices the service at $9.00 a day compared with a retail price of $180 for the shoes.

The service stems from a partnership with the gear rental startup Arrive Outdoors. Eddie Bauer claims that the items can be delivered anywhere in the contiguous U.S. including over 10,000 FedEx or FedEx affiliate locations. Items can be returned free of charge and dropped off at any FedEx location.

In June Eddie Bauer was bought by SPARC Group, a joint venture between the mall owner Simon Property Group and brand licensing and development firm Authentic Brands Group.
