The German Schuhe24 Group, which manages an online marketplace for independent retailers in many sectors, is branching out into the hot bicycle segment by joining and taking over majority control. That company claims it operates the largest platform for bicycle dealers in Germany, carrying over 25,000 bicycles offered by 1,100 specialist dealers. Both sides have agreed not to disclose the purchase price paid for its shares.

As the majority shareholder, Schuhe24 wants to support Bike-Angebot’s future growth and further expand the overall platform business, setting up online shops for the retailers and linking up the product ranges being offered to consumers, including accessories. Dominik Benner, managing director and founder of the Schuhe24 Group, said it has already connected a large number of local sports retailers who sell bicycles and accessories in addition to other products. They can now be brought into, too.

Friedemann Vieweger, founder and managing director of, will stay on board and remain a financial partner. Two other shareholders, Tilo Kurreck and Hanno Vieweger, have left. The company’s team in Neubulach is to be expanded. The sales force is to enlarged and backed up by higher investments in marketing.

Founded in 2013 as a marketplace for shoe retailers, the Schuhe24 Group has since developed platforms for eight other industries, including jewelry and watches.
