StockX, the American online market for sneakers, opened on May 5 an authentication center in Melbourne. It is the company’s first center covering Australia and New Zealand. StockX currently has 11 authentication centers and drop-off locations in addition to its offices in Detroit, London and Tokyo.
Australians have been able to trade on StockX’s platform since 2016. The company explained that with the opening of the Melbourne center, buyers in Australia will enjoy lower shipping fees and shorter delivery times while sellers will benefit from reduced fees, streamlined shipping and faster payouts. The new facility also enables bulk shipping for established sellers and all-in pricing, a proprietary feature that matches buyers with sellers in order to further minimize shipping times and related fees.
StockX pointed out that Australia is among its fastest-growing markets. According to a Harris Poll survey, 19 percent of Australian adults have purchased or plan to purchase limited-edition sneakers in 2021. The survey was conducted online by Harris Poll on behalf of StockX from March 2-4, among 1,021 Australian adults aged 18 and older.
