Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, has entered the U.S. market, expanding its presence to 14 countries. The company has been active in increasing its international presence this year, with the launch of its German online store in January and in France, Italy and Spain one month later.
In 2020, the platform’s sales outside Russia jumped by 95 percent year-on-year to 23.7 billion rubles (€261m-$314m). That compares to the 437 billion rubles (€4.82bn-$5.8bn) of domestic sales, which have grown rapidly during the past few years.
Wildberries offers about 5.5 million items provided by more than 40,000 brands, primarily clothing, shoes, and accessories. The company said that with the recent launch, it planned to reach not only U.S. customers but also local suppliers.
“The online platform brings together manufacturers and sellers from different countries – Russia, Germany, France, Poland, and many others. We are open to expanding cooperation with American entrepreneurs, including small and medium-sized businesses,” said Vyacheslav Ivashchenko, director of development at Wildberries.
