Esjot hopes to fill a niche in the growing demand for safety footwear in China by opening a factory for the production of shoe components in Foshan this October. The increasing requirements for steel toe caps look especially appealing to this subsidiary of Texon International, as the Chinese market for this type of product is set to grow by more than 60 percent in 2006 and by more than 75 percent by 2007. The factory will utilize the knowledge, experience and resources of the company’s European facilities, and will have European technicians and machinery. As international manufacturers continue to pour into China, pressure for legislation to increase safety measures and standards for working conditions is rising. Consequently, more workers are required to wear safety equipment, including work boots.
