Bata India, which is India’s largest footwear retailer and the largest business of Switzerland-based Bata, has appointed Gunjan Shah as chief executive, effective June 21. He joins the company from the Indian food and beverage group Britannia and replaces Sandeep Kataria, who was promoted global chief executive of Bata at the end of last year.
Bata India has a network of more than 1,600 directly managed and franchised stores and also retails through thousands of multibrand stores.
Kataria said that “India has always been a significant market for us from a global perspective. A dynamic leader like Gunjan will spearhead the company’s operations in India and given his extensive experience and track record, I am confident that he will take the Bata brand to even greater heights and deliver strong growth.”
Shah is currently chief commercial officer at Britannia. He joined the company in 2007 and held several managerial positions. He previously worked for Asian Paints.
