The German shoe retailer HR Group has appointed a new CEO. Steffen Rosenbauer, the managing director of the group’s Reno footwear chain, took up the post on April 1 as Peter Wolf resigned after a three-year tenure to return focusing on the role of chairman of the advisory board.

Rosenbauer, a proven sales and management expert, joined HR Group as the head of Reno on Nov. 1, 2020, taking responsibility for the chain’s entire international brick-and-mortar fleet as well as the e-commerce and marketing business.

In addition to his duties as CEO, Rosenbauer will continue to be responsible for online and offline retail. “Above all, this includes further implementing the repositioning of Reno, driving the positive development in the e-commerce business and pushing forward the even closer integration of the two areas, especially against the background of the coronavirus pandemic,” HR Group said in a statement.

“In the last five months, I have gained deep insights into the company, visited many sites and gotten to know people. I am looking forward to the new tasks and am well aware of the current challenges in these pandemic times. I see, however, motivated teams with committed employees, a tradition-laden company with decades-long experience and excellent networking, as well as a specific need in the market. Together with our employees, I would like to successfully shape the future of HR Group,” said Rosenbauer in the statement.

The 48-year-old manager started his career at the German food retailer Lidl and was also in charge of sales, expansion and marketing at KiK Textilien & Non-Food for many years. He then worked in the same capacity at the textile retailer NKD. For the last five years, Rosenbauer worked for the Dutch company Discounter Action, a non-food discount retailer with over 1,500 stores and around 50,000 employees. As managing director of Action Deutschland, Rosenbauer successfully built up the German business, which currently has more than 350 stores.

As a co-partner of HR Group, Wolf will continue to help shape the group’s strategic direction. “Peter Wolf, who initially took over the role and duties of CEO three years ago as an interim solution, significantly further developed the HR Group during its strategic and operational realignment and made it stable in a highly competitive market,” the group said.
