Federcalzature, the Italian shoe retailers' association run by Massimo Donda, estimates that about 14,000 specialist shoe shops are operating in Italy. Out of these, 11 chains have a total of 1,938 stores that specialize in high-end shoes, and 18 others run 569 stores specializing in children's shoes. Sixteen others are chains that have a combined total of 820 shoe stores. Lombardy, Lazio and Campania are the regions with the highest number of shoes shops.
