Foster & Son has opened a new shoe factory in Northampton, the first new shoe factory in decades in the U.K. The firm chose Oct. 25, the feast of St. Crispin, patron of industry, to inaugurate the facility. The factory currently employs eight workers, but the company plans to increase the staff to 20 within the next 12 months. The new factory will produce ready-to-wear shoes, which were until now produced by a manufacturing partner also based in Northampton. Foster and Son shoes are marketed under two brand names, Foster & Son and Henry Maxwell.
