The French prime minister Edouard Philippe said yesterday that all stores will reopen on May 11 after the country introduced a nationwide lockdown to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Prefects will however have the right to keep closed shopping centers over 40,000 square meters in the administration areas they oversee. The measure is seen as possibly delaying the reopening of large malls. Philippe said that wearing masks in the stores will be recommended if social distancing cannot be respected.

In the meantime, Berlin has decided to impose wearing face masks in stores. The measure was already mandatory in all of Germany’s other states.Germany started a gradual reopening of non-essential stores on April 20, after a five-week lockdown.
