Furla, the Italian specialist in handbags and other leathergoods and accessories, has opened its first dedicated shoe shop in Rome. Located on via Tomacelli near the Spanish Steps, it is regarded as a pilot store that may be followed by other outlets in major European cities. The store sells Furla’s extensive footwear collection next to other accessories such as scarves, gloves and headwear. Furla has 14 other single-brand shops in Roma which concentrate on handbags. Designed in-house and produced at various Italian factories, Furla’s footwear line is three years old. It represented 10 percent of its sales of €108.5 million in 2004, and the management, led by Giovanna Furlanetto and by Sara Ferrero, would like to take it up to 30 percent of the turnover. Total revenues increased by 29 percent in 2004 and a smaller sales increase is expected for this year.
