G-Lord, the recently established German buying group, is launching new service initiatives to attract more retail members, such as offering big discounts for personalized carrying bags or special rates for the shipment of return packages by DHL. Horst Purschke, formerly with Leiser and Rexor, is now heading up a division of G-Lord that groups retail members specializing in orthopaedic and comfort shoes. It will hold the first seminars in March. Meanwhile, SABU, the buying group that cooperates with G-Lord in purchasing and central settlements, has just finished a roadshow through eight German cities, holding seminars that have attracted participants from 350 affiliated retail firms. SABU’s total revenues from central settlements and wholesale sales increased last year by 4.3 percent. Those of the affiliated members grew by an estimated 0.5 percent, thanks especially to strong business in November and December.
