Gabor has opened the first company-owned single-brand store in the Riem Arkaden shopping center of Munich, and the German shoe supplier wants to add 3-5 of them annually in the future, particularly abroad. Concrete plans exist in Austria, Switzerland and Portugal. The company’s products are already carried in 38 stores under the Gabor name, but they are run by independent retailers, and the total door count should rise to 50 by 2008, with up to ten of them directly operated by the company. Gabor, whose total sales are expected to increase this year by 5 percent to €265 million, is spending very little now on internal communication but is spending a lot right now on advertisements in the German trade press about the benefits of its shop-in-shop system, which has been adopted by 293 stores.
