Genesco has agreed to sell its SureGrip Footwear subsidiary to Shoes For Crews (SFC), a leading American provider of slip-resistant footwear. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Using a proprietary technology, SureGrip produces and markets a broad line of occupational, slip-resistant shoes for the hospitality, grocery, foodservice, healthcare and industrial industries under many well-known brands. Besides Genesco's own Johnson & Murphy brand, the portfolio includes names like Caterpillar, Dockers, Lila, Merrell, Aerosoles, Crocs, DC Shoes and New Balance. Like those of SFC, the products are distributed both through corporate safety footwear programs as well as in a direct-to-consumer mode. Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, and headed up by a shoe industry veteran, Stuart Jenkins, SFC has been producing slip-resistant footwear since 1984. It uses a special outsole technology. Its product range includes a culinary footwear brand, Mozo, and a brand of work boots, ACE.
