German shoe retailers recorded a nice 8 percent increase in March, as compared to the same month a year ago, which showed a 20 percent decline. One factor for the increase was the fact that this year the month had two more shopping days. Coupled with a 2.0 percent increase in January and an 18.0 percent decline in February, the tally for the first three months of this year is a decline of 2 percent in euros and 4 percent in pairs. Sabu, the German buying group, reports that the sales of its affiliated retailers were up by 21.8 percent in April and for the current year by 4.9 percent as of May 5.
