GMS, the German voluntary group of shoe retailers, announced at its annual general meeting that it will continue to focus on family-run shoe and sporting goods retailers in 2020. GMS has reported that sales in 2019 were stable from the previous year. In that time, it has welcomed 121 new retailers. Of these, 34 percent are start-ups, while 66 percent are retailers that have never belonged to any other voluntary group, members that have switched from another voluntary group and new stores set up by existing clients. GMS's membership includes 1,900 stores in Europe that are said to have grown organically in 2019.
