India is the seventh-largest exporter of leather and leathergoods in the world, according to a study conducted by the country's Council for Leather Exports. It accounted for 2.79 percent of the global import trade in 2010. It ranks high in related segments as well: seventh for finished leather, ninth for leather footwear, 3rd for leather garments and saddlery, and 5th for leathergoods and accessories. The global trade in leather and leathergoods reached $138 billion in 2010.
