India's exports of leather shoes grew by 10 percent to $617 million in the April-July period, as compared to the same period a year ago, according to India's Ministry of Commerce. Exports of footwear components rose at a faster rate of 30 percent to $110 million. Total exports of leather and leather products are expected to increase by about 15 percent for the 12-month period ending next April due to currency fluctuations, raw material shortages and the fact that large quantities of semi-finished leather are being exported by Indian tanners to China and Italy.
