Italian authorities are seeking a nine-year prison sentence for Walter Burani and his son Giovanni, in connection with the collapse in 2010 of Burani Designer Holding, Mariella Burani Family Holding and Mariella Burani Fashion Group. At the end of his closing speech on July 16, Milan's deputy prosecutor, Luigi Orsi, asked the judge presiding over the case to convict them for bankruptcy fraud. The next hearing in the case is due to take place on Sept. 17. The Mariella Burani holding companies hold indirect stakes in Baldinini and other Italian shoe and leathrgoods operations.
