Italian shoemakers produced 1.5 percent more on an adjusted basis in June as compared to the same month a year ago, according to the Italian statistics office, Istat, contributing to an 8.2 percent increase for the whole industrial sector. It was the first monthly increase in shoe production since December 2008. The apparent turnaround has not yet been reflected in the export figures, which show a 4.6 percent decline to €1,899 million for the first quarter of this year. Among the major manufacturing regions, increases in export value were recorded only in Tuscany and Campania.
