Keen has partnered with Nossa Familia Coffee, a coffee roaster based in Portland, Oregon, to create a new range of sustainable handbags that help keep fabric waste out of landfill. The material used in the handbags of the new Keen Harvest Collection comes from twice-upcycled Nossa Familia coffee sacks. The threads used in the fabric of these sacks come from pre-consumer waste and post-consumer second-hand clothing waste in Guatemala. The New Denim Project in Guatemala City takes pre-consumer denim waste and post-consumer second-hand clothing waste in Guatemala, and upcycles it into fabric for use in apparel, bags, home textiles, and packaging, including coffee sacks. This process is also said to save up to 5,284 gallons (20,002 liters) of water for every kilogram of upcycled material. The five handbags of the new Keen collection are exclusively available at keenfootwear.com, and at the Keen retail stores in Portland, Oregon, and Palo Alto, California.
