Klaus Diehl, former chief executive of the German leathergoods industry federation (BVLK) and former chief executive of the exhibition center in Offenbach, passed away at the age of 73. From 1975 to 2000, he ran the BVLK, which merged with the German shoe industry federation, HDS, in January 2012. From 1981 to 2001, he also ran the Offenbanch exhibition center, which organizes the International Leather Goods Fair (ILM) twice a year. With his influence, Diehl transformed the trade show from a German platform for regional companies to an international show with flexible stands, giving companies outside the leathergoods sector the possibility to exhibit. Diehl is said to have been an important link between the German shoe and leathergoods industries, their federation and the exhibition center.
